- Turbulence — Severe to extreme. Can exist well outside the visible cloud.
- Wind shear / Gust front — Leading edge of outflow. Can flip a light aircraft on approach.
- Microburst — Concentrated downdraft. Think wind shear in the worst possible place at the worst possible time.
- Hail — Can fall miles outside the cloud. Clear air, blue sky above - hail hits your airplane.
- Lightning — Every thunderstorm produces it. Can strike aircraft in the clear near the storm.
- Icing — Rapid accumulation at any altitude within the storm. Can cause near-instantaneous power failure.
- Low ceiling/visibility — Near zero inside the cloud. Precipitation and blowing debris between cloud base and ground.
- Tornadoes — Associated with both isolated and squall line storms. Funnel extends below the cloud.
